Description
Emma
Emma is a contemporary portrait that addresses themes of visibility, survival, and moral witness. Created in response to the Me Too movement and the ongoing crisis of child sex trafficking, the work confronts the viewer with a steady, unembellished gaze that resists both sentimentality and spectacle.
The restrained palette and simplified forms evoke erasure and vulnerability, while Emma’s direct presence asserts endurance. This portrait is not an illustration of trauma, but a meditation on responsibility—inviting the viewer to acknowledge what is often unseen and to bear witness with integrity.
Emma stands as a quiet yet powerful statement about dignity, resilience, and the necessity of seeing.

I just want to do something to help her. She seems very exhausted, depressed— feelings to arrest the viewer!
Sonja Kraft replied:
Thank you Andreas. I am happy that you see the emotions in the painting. It's a big world out there. xoxo
